Reid was able to bind Decker to a deal. In August 2009, she launched her self-titled debut album under the name Jessie James. Jessie James had a moderately popular debut album. Wanted, a song of the album, reached the Top 40 singles chart. Decker has always considered herself as a country singer However, the album's marketing and production was targeted at an audience more influenced by pop. Decker struggled to get more control over her music put out after her earlier singles were not so well received. Decker made her debut album with two titles: Sweet American Dreams or Daughter of a Gypsy. Mercury decided to put it back on the shelf when the first three singles did poorly in the charts for country music. Decker then was let go from the contract.
